Richard B. Macgurn

rbwebRichard B. Macgurn has been practicing law since 1977. He specializes in probate, estate planning and trust law, including guardianships and conservatorships.

The passion Richard Macgurn brings to his work evolved after his father’s death in the summer before his junior year of college. Over the next five years, while he completed college and law school, his father’s estate remained in probate. On behalf of his family, Mr. Macgurn filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court to compel the distribution of the estate and to recover losses caused by the executor’s delay and failure to pay estate taxes. From this surcharge trial, his first as a new lawyer, he learned valuable lessons. To advise Executors, Administrators and Trustees to enable an efficient and expeditious administration of complex estates requires years of practice, experience and education outside of law school. To entrust this process to inexperienced individuals costs heirs time, money and loss of access to one’s inheritance. In response to those early lessons, Richard Macgurn dedicated his practice to the prompt and efficient provision of quality legal services and he has resolved to do all he can to help others through the difficult, and often emotional, legal process after the death of a loved one.

Richard Macgurn is also experienced in business law, including transactions and entity creation.

Richard Macgurn was born in Newport Beach, California in 1953. He was a cadet at Virginia Military Institute from 1970 until 1972. In 1987, Mr. Macgurn was admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and in 1991 was certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Specialist in Probate, Estate Planning and Trust Law.
